Create comics from Claude or ChatGPT

Connect your ComicKnit account to a compatible MCP client to create illustrated comics from a conversation. Each person signs in with their own ComicKnit account and authorizes access. Generation uses ComicKnit credits, not the Claude or ChatGPT subscription's image-generation allowance.

Server URL

Use this Streamable HTTP + OAuth endpoint when adding a connector. Never put passwords, access tokens, or API keys in the URL.

Connect your account

Claude

In Claude's connector settings, add a custom remote connector with the server URL above, then sign in to ComicKnit and review the permissions. Leave the optional client ID and client secret empty — ComicKnit supports dynamic client registration. A Team or Enterprise administrator may need to allow the connector first. See Claude's custom connector instructions for current plan and workspace requirements.

ChatGPT

Enable developer mode in a supported ChatGPT account, then create a custom MCP app using the server URL above. Select OAuth with dynamic client registration rather than supplying a client secret. Sign in to ComicKnit and approve the connection, then enable the app in your conversation. Available plans, menus, and workspace permissions can change — follow OpenAI's developer mode instructions.

This connector is not listed in either provider's public app directory. Installing a custom connector still depends on the client's plan and workspace policy.

Create a comic

For example, ask:

“Use ComicKnit to create a three-page comic about a fox repairing a space station. Check my credits first and tell me what generation costs before starting. When it's finished, give me the comic link and download links.”

The assistant checks your account, asks for permission to spend credits, starts a background job, and checks progress. ComicKnit generates the script, reference artwork, and illustrated pages using the same pipeline as the web app. The result stays private — reading and downloading a private comic in your browser requires signing in to its owning ComicKnit account.

No tool can buy credits, publish comics, delete your work, or access another user's private comics. You can revoke a connection at any time from your MCP connections.

Available tools

ToolPurpose
get_accountCheck your credit balance and per-stage prices.
list_elementsFind saved characters, locations, props, and text to reuse.
list_comicsList your comics.
create_comicStart script, reference, and page generation as one background job.
get_jobCheck job status and the current generation stage.
get_comicRead progress, finished page artwork, optional script, and reader/download links.
resume_comicExplicitly retry the unfinished artwork of a failed MCP job, reusing its script and completed assets.

Write tools require explicit confirmation of credit spending. The assistant should reuse the same request when retrying one whose response was lost; changing the story under an existing request is rejected. Only one MCP generation job can run for an account at a time.

create_comic accepts a story or explainer brief, art style, audience, page count, aspect ratio, and saved-element IDs. The existing application limits apply: 3–30 story pages plus a cover, and a brief of at least 100 characters. The assistant can expand a short prompt into a brief for your approval.

Security

OAuth uses authorization codes with S256 PKCE, exact registered redirect URIs, explicit account consent, expiring bearer tokens, and rotating refresh tokens. The server accepts no user ID supplied by a tool caller — ownership always comes from your authenticated connection, and access tokens only work against the MCP endpoint, not the rest of the ComicKnit site.
