How to create a comic series

A series links episodes together. ComicKnit remembers what happened before, who's in the cast and how the series should look, so each new episode picks up where the last one ended.

Step 1: Create the series

Open Series in the top menu. Under Create Series, type a Series title and a Short description, then press Create Series.

Your new series appears under Your Series. Click it to open its settings.

Step 2: Write the Series Bible

The Bible is the rulebook every episode follows. Fill in World & Rules (how your world works) and Tone & Genre (for example “cozy mystery, gentle humor”).

Tick Lock visual style for new episodes so every episode uses the same art style and page format.

Under Format, you can add a Previously on… recap page (one extra, normal page at the start of Episode 2 onward), Cliffhanger ending guidance, and a “To be continued…” closer. Press Save Bible.

Step 3: Pin your recurring cast

Under Cast, click Add from library, choose a saved element and press Pin. Pinned cast members are preselected for every new episode, but never forced into a story.

Add a Series note to any cast member. If a character changes during the series — a new scar, a new outfit — open Current state, write a State note and press Save state. You can also Generate state image. The change applies to future episodes of this series only; your library element stays as it was.

Step 4: Plan the story arc (optional)

The Arc section holds episode ideas in order. Open Draft an arc with AI, write a premise and choose how many episodes (1–12), then press Draft arc. Add the ideas you like with Add to arc.

You can also type your own with Add a beat. Beats are just plans — they never create scripts by themselves.

Step 5: Create an episode

Press New Episode. The create form opens with a banner — “Creating Episode 2 of …” — and the previous episode's settings already filled in.

Give the episode a title, then tap the Series cast chips you want in this episode. Open Story so far to see the recap ComicKnit shares with the script writer. If there are Loose ends, tick the unresolved threads this episode should move forward.

If you planned an arc, the next beat fills in the story box — edit it freely. Then press Create Comic and finish the episode as usual.

Step 6: Add existing comics and reorder episodes

Already made a comic that belongs in the series? Open it from My Comics and choose the series in the Series dropdown.

Back in the series manager, Episodes lists everything in order. Move episodes up or down to reorder them, or Remove one from the series. After each episode is finished, ComicKnit writes a Continuity summary (synopsis, ending state, character changes, open threads) that you can edit.

Step 7: Share the series

When you publish episodes, the series gets a public page — click Open Public Page to see it. Readers can subscribe and are notified when you publish a new episode.

Use Export PDF or Export ZIP to download the whole series as a single volume.

Questions & answers

Does each episode remember what happened before?

Yes. After an episode finishes, ComicKnit writes a continuity summary. The next episode receives the story so far, the loose ends you choose and the Series Bible, so events and character changes carry forward.

Can I change the art style for one episode?

If the style lock is on, the create form shows “Unlock for this episode”. That changes the style for that episode only and leaves the Series Bible as it is.

Does the recap page cost extra?

Yes. The “Previously on…” recap is one extra story page, charged like any other page (5 credits).

Can readers follow my series?

Yes. On a public series page, signed-in readers can subscribe and get a notification whenever you publish a new episode.
